In 1988, Mehriban Aliyeva graduated from the 1st Moscow State Medical Institute named after M.Sechenov with honours diploma.A leader woman, the woman who has her own clear position, a civic stand and makes great contribution to the political life of the country as a Member of Parliament, President of Heydar Aliyev Foundation, Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO and ISESCO - First Lady of Azerbaijan Mehriban Aliyeva was born in 25 th of August in 1964 in the well-known Azerbaijan family. Her grandfather Mir-Jalal Pashaev was a famous Azerbaijani writer. school in Baku from 1967 till 1977.In 1977, he entered the Moscow State
University of International RelMehriban Aliyeva finished secondary school in 1981 and married Ilham Aliyev, the son of Heydar Aliyev, in 1983. She continued her studies, in which she excelled, at the Azerbaijan Medical University and later at the Sechenov Moscow Medical Academy, from which she graduated in 1988. From 1988–92, Mehriban Aliyeva worked at the State Research Institute of Eye Diseases of the Russian Academy of Medical Sciences in Moscow, which was led by Dr. Mikhail Krasnov. Two articles in The Times in 2005 described her as a "qualified physician"and "former eye doctor."Ilham Heydar oglu Aliyev was born in December 24, 1961, in Baku.He attended a secondary school in Baku from 1967 till 1977.In 1977, he entered the Moscow State University of International Relations (MSUIR).
In 1982, upon his graduation, Mr. Aliyev had continued his education as a postgraduate student in MSUIR.During the years of 1985-1990, he gave lectures at the Moscow State University of International Relations. In 1994-2003, he was the ise-president, and later the first vise-president of the State Oil Company of theRepublicIn October 15, 2003, he was elected as the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan. More than 76% of voters supported Ilham Aliyev’s candidacy during the elections. He assumed his post on 31 October, 2003.
Ilham Aliyev was elected to the second term of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan, after acquiring 88% of votes of electorate in the elections, held on October 15, 2008. He started to execute the Office of the President of the Republic of Azerbaijan on October 24, 2008.
The Heydar Aliyev Foundation, named in commemoration of the National Leader of Azerbaijan, was established on 10th of May, 2004. Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva, the spouse of the President of Azerbaijan H.E. Mr. Ilham Aliyev became a President of the Foundation. The main goal of the foundation is to enhance the social, economic and cultural development in the country and to ensure the implementation of the large-scale projects and programs in the line with Heydar Aliyev’s ideas for progress in Azerbaijan
After the death of her father-in-law Heydar Aliyev in 2003, Mrs. Aliyeva established, in 2004, the Heydar Aliyev Foundation, which focuses on studying and holding events to promote Heydar Aliyev's political ideology. In Azerbaijan, according to a recent news article, "The HAF builds more schools than Azerbaijan's Ministry of Education, more hospitals than the Ministry of Health, and conducts more cultural events than the Ministry of Culture. The Heydar Aliyev Foundation also sponsors projects outside Azerbaijan, including helping to finance renovations at the Louvre Museum, Palace of Versailles, and Strasbourg Cathedral.
The H.Aliyev Foundation plays a significant role in the development of sport. The winners of Olympic and Para-Olympic Games as well as international championships are awarded monthly stipends and scholarships or other financial incentives. The Second International Chess Festival -“President Cup”, was held in Baku in memory of the National Leader Heydar Aliyev. In 2002 Mrs. Aliyeva was elected the President of the Azerbaijan Gymnastics Federation and showed herself as a skilful organizer in that position. Her growing prestige in the international world played an important role in adoption of decision of International Gymnastics Federation on realization of 2003 and 2004 World Cup competitions and 2005 World Championship on Rhythmic Gymnastics in Azerbaijan
The Mugam Center was built on initiative of the First Lady of Azerbaijan, Mehriban Aliyeva. Mugam is a genre included in the representative list of the UNESCO Intagible Cultural Heritage of Humanity. The construction of the building started in April, 2005. The center covers 7,500 square meters and has 3 stories. The funding was provided by the Heydar Aliyev Foundation. The design of the building was based on elements and shapes of Tar, Azerbaijani musical instrument used in performing Mugam. The concert hall fits 350 people. The center also has a club, restraurant, study halls and record studios.
As you know, Heydar Aliyev Foundation implements some projects to support mugham such as Mugham-Irs, World of Mugham, Encyclopedia of Mugham, Mugham-Internet,Mugham-Destgah, Mugham-Anthology
One of the main targets of Mrs. Aliyeva’s activity is to address the problems of children and support the comprehensive upbringing and education of younger generation. Her commitment and charitable work in this domain include construction of hundreds of new schools, hospitals, clinics, musical lyceums, renovation of orphanages in different spots of Azerbaijan. Thalassemia Centre with free of cost treatment was built in the capital of Azerbaijan in 2007 and the actions, such as donating insulin pens to children with diabetes as well as blood donation actions are realized by the Foundation.
Aside from being the President's wife, she is President of the Heydar Aliyev Fund, which proclaims to be a humanitarian organization constructing schools, hospitals, and youth centers, among other projects. These projects provide a constant array of goodwill photo opportunities and advertisements for the First Lady, as she cuts ribbons on new schools and cultural centers.
The President of H.Aliyev Foundation was the initiator and inspirer of the opening the “Silk Road” Committee within the organizational structure of Niagara Festival, the purpose of which is to promote the great music and cultural heritage of the countries lying on the ancient Silk Road, as a symbol of spiritual unity and understanding of humanity. Mrs. Aliyeva is supporting annually the sponsorship of Niagara International Festival which serves a convergence and integration of the cultural riches of the East and West. A Mugham Center, where Mugham festivals are organized annually, was established in Baku in order to promote the traditional classical music of Azerbaijan and Baku Culture Center for holding cultural events has been constructed. Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva has also funded publication of a number of books on culture, music, history and cuisine of Azerbaijan. What is more, the international festivals, such as Gabala Music Festivals and Baku Ashug folk festivals, are annually organized by foundation
Due to her hard efforts in protection and development of Azerbaijan's verbal folk literature and music heritage, Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded the title of Goodwill Ambassador of UNESCO on August 13, 2004.
Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded the title of Goodwill Ambassador of ISESCO for the wide-scale and selfless activity in
different spheres, including the dialogue among civilizations, the attention towards the children in need of care- big support to improvement of their living conditions, education, as well as the works carried out in the Islamic world.
Mehriban Aliyeva helped to organise Eurovision Song Contest.
I participation.For the first time, on May 24, 2008 Azerbaijan participated in the 53 Eurovision Song Contest held in Belgrade, Serbia, In the contest, Azerbaijan held 8th place among 43 countries with 132 points (performers – Elnur Husseinov and Samir Javadzadeh with the song called “Day after day”)
II participation.
On May 16, 2009 in the 54th contest held in Russian capital Moscow, Azerbaijan took the third place among 42 countries with 207 points (performers – Aysel Teymurzadeh and Arash with the song called “Always”).
III participation.
On may 29, 2010 in the 55th competition held in Oslo, Norway Azerbaijan took the 5th place among 39 countries with 145 points (performer Safura Alizadeh with the song called “Drip drop”).
IV participation.
On May 29, 2011, in the 56th Eurovision Song Contest held in Düsseldorf, in Germany Eldar Qasimov and Nigar Jamal who represented Azerbaijan with the song called “Running scared” became winners among 43 countries with 221 points.
V participation
Sabina Babayeva, representing Azerbaijan at 57th Eurovision Song Contest held in May 26, 2012 in capital of Azerbaijan Baku city had got 150 points and won the 4th place among 42 countries with “When the music dies” song.
Elnur Huseynov is the Azerbaijani representative in Vienna.

Huseynov is Azerbaijan’s choice for the 2015 Eurovision Song Contest.
He was internally selected by the Azerbaijani broadcaster İctimai
Television, ITV. On stage in Vienna, the singer will perform his
mystical contemporary ballad Hour Of The Wolf.
Mrs. Mehriban Aliyeva has also been the initiator and organizer of international conferences on the dialogue between different faiths. A striking example of the tolerant co-existence and a friendly relationship with each other among the representatives of different faiths is now in Azerbaijan, where all religions coexist and live in harmony. The Foundation has also been funding the reconstruction of religious monuments across the country since 2006. A number of mosques and shrines, including one of the oldest Buzovna mosque, have been reconstructed as part of the “Azerbaijan - Home to Tolerance” project
A mother to two daughters and a son and a grandmother to three grandsons, she also manages to serve the humanity to seize people's hearts, and she does it not because it is a necessity or because she is a spouse of the President of Azerbaijan she does it from the bottom of her heart.
